Kenworth Truck Centres of Ontario recently celebrated the grand opening of their brand new, extended and state-of-the-art 40,000-square-foot facility in Cambridge, Ontario to replace its former Kitchener location. URSA was approached before building the new dealership by Kenworth looking to have their new facility outfitted with high quality LED lighting. The new site features a dealership with eight service bays with enough space to serve up to 16 full-size transport trucks. It also has 10,000- square-feet worth of auto parts.

WHAT CONCERN ARE WE SOLVING?
Designing this particular lighting layout involved a considerable amount of design criteria to be taken into account, this included high-bay lighting to be installed into the poorly lit high rack warehouse and large full-service mechanics shop. Well lit shops with properly located lighting really do make the repair process easier and can help reduce return repairs and employee injury.
A common cause of failure in LED lighting is heat dissipation. Hot and humid environments can lower the life expectancy of the fixture and cause poor performance. Ursa’s IP65 superior and extensive experience in thermal management made them a clear standout from the competition.
They also took note of the high-end dealership showcasing their world renowned heavy and medium duty trucks, that would need additional LED fixtures for some extra flair. Striving to increase services and customer contact points to enhance the retail experience.
URSA engineered the layout of the lighting so that they could focus on conserving electricity while improving visibility and quality of light. Ursa provided Kenworth with their 240 Watt Helios fixtures due to the high level of durability and innovative 3-pad design that significantly reduces thermal resistance while maintaining efficacy and life expectancy.
In large warehouses, where operations regularly keep running on a day in and day out the premise, lighting typically accounts for up to 75 percent of the overall facility’s electrical costs.
Designing the lighting for long-term gains, not short-term savings. Ensuring that the Kenworth trucking centers lights would offer a piece of mind knowing that URSA’s core values of Design, Innovation and Power match that of Kenworth trucks.
By adopting Ursa’s LED lighting over conventional HPS lighting typically found in most commercial facilities, they were able to solve the visibility issue that was a large concern for the area of the dealership. HPS lights generate light with a narrow spectrum and have an extremely low Color Rendering Index, which simply does not accurately showcase colors.
Because of the well thought out solutions provided by Ursa, employees at Kenworth Trucking Cambridge are now benefiting from secure, enhanced light quality for many years to come. Along with energy savings of up to 50 percent when compared to HPS.
URSA exists to serve the lighting world, providing innovative solutions through our core platforms.
